Ernie was born September 6, 1941 to John and Josephine Catanzaro. He grew up in Queens, New York, and went to Grover Cleveland High School.
After graduation, he opened a Delicatessen on Ridgewood Avenue in Brooklyn, New York.
Ernie had two children, Christina and Ernie, from his first marriage.
In 1973, Ernie went to work for New York Sanitation. When he was laid off in 1975, he opened a liquor store in Merrick, Long Island, NY.

The following year, he was called back to New York Sanitation and went on to serve 33 years as a New York Sanitation Sandman. After retiring, he worked as a security guard once a week.
One of the happiest days of his life was when he married Sue on December 10, 2003. It was then that he also became a Stepfather to TJ, Billy and Henry Napier.
Ernie had nine grandchildren who he loved dearly.
In 2009 Sue and Ernie purchased a Yorkshire Terrier named Toto, whom he always called their “son.” Toto followed Ernie everywhere and loved to be with him.
Ernie loved his family and enjoyed family gatherings. He loved to travel – Aruba and Las Vegas were his favorite places to go. He enjoyed having company and parties, playing cards, and meeting his friends weekly for lunch. Ernie’s favorite hobby was gardening.
Ernie was a great guy who loved his family. He will be missed immensely.
